With all the recent shenanigans, and the tricky-questionable practices-conduct going on?
Who's up to thinking out loud about what parts of it could be changed? And to use those ideas for making change without needing the approval or cooperation of those that are currently responsible for (a) those who have been poor stewards of our democratic systen and thusly of our country, and (b) those who have come to be here with th eintention of taking advantage of government by consciously rigging the system to favor special interests, or simply for the profit of themselves, by actively legislating to such ends.
Well, lots and lots of Americans have been noting lots of 'inside info' on how the sausage of governing really happens.
A good(?) example is the now obvious cunning of Senator Mitch McConnell. His strategy, now that we've seen it in all it's glory, is to gain ground at any expense - able to deny his responsibility by couching it in now-obvious rhetoric - by refusing to bring anything to the floor for which there aren't the votes for him to get the outcome he wants.
Well, now we see more clearly that this obstruction - the block everything except known winners started when he put his blocks in play to prevent President Obama for getting a Supreme Court justice cinfirmed. Well, looking back over the landscape of our experience with Trump, we really have had our eyes opened over the past 3 or 4 years, haven't we.
I said it more than a few times over the past 30 years, "what is wrong with us"?
The short answer to our question is: nothing - not with the vast majority of us anyway.
American families, workers, and voters are not themselves the problem. But it may be a generational problem - by which I mean that for very many generations, life in America has been one of opportunity and progress - sometimes small and sometimes slow - but it was there for the taking - but maybe we got spoiled, And we didn't notice the change taking place, granted slowly, for the past 40+ years. The slow pace of that reversal of fortune in fact was what made it possible for the dishonest agents to succeed.
So here - to be clear - let me declare the belief that there's only two means by which this massive change in the fortunes of the vast majority of Americans could have happened -- by accident or on purpose - and we have to accept that it doesn't matter which mechanism we're talking about. We need to eliminate both the Riggers and the Breakers - thry are equally dangerous and harmful.
It's got more to do with the people we trusted - by voting them into offices of trust - that seem to have let us down.
Why?
It seems to me now that it was a lot less about incompetance, maybe it started that way,
but the money-boys arrived with small requests for help and the avalanche began - given
the Citizen's United decision and the Legislature's refusal to write law to protect us.
Well, this shit has got to stop, and there's no one here but us.
So, it is up to us, because it was up to us the whole time.
Welcome to what we hope to build as a way to get it back - everything that those
the money-boys and their rigged system took away from us - for our children, our country.
Remember always: because they say it "it don't make it true".
Some groups will say pretty much anything to get you and keep you.
And sometimes it seems they're more interested in keeping people away from
other groups than they're interested in giving them an honest place to be.
Hope you will join us for this dose of reality about what needs doing.
